Participating in this year’s 2015 South Carolina Jazz Festival in Cheraw is “Freedom’s Groove” of the Army Ground Forces from Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
The jazz combo is a small musical ensemble that performs in a variety of venues, including schools, high-visibility military functions, state and local jazz festivals, as well as national tours to promote jazz and the Army story.
The jazz musicians perform a diverse repertoire, including works ranging from Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck to Stevie Wonder and The Beatles. This group proudly maintains the American military jazz heritage originating with the Army Air Corps of the 1940s.
“Freedom’s Groove” is one of four musical performances at Centennial Park on Saturday, Oct. 17. The jazz ensemble is scheduled to perform from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the downtown venue. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to this free event.
There will be many more happenings during the festival weekend of Oct. 16-18. Visit www.scjazzfestival.com for a complete schedule of events or call 843-537-8420, extension 12.
