HARTSVILLE — Deputies say a Chesterfield County man raped a woman in her bed last week after locking the victim’s mother out of the room.
Christopher Ernest Yarborough, 42, of 1715 Patricia Lane outside Hartsville, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct in the incident.
Chesterfield County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a Lake Road home near Hartsville on Oct. 6. Sgt. Thomas Ballard arrived and found the victim and her mother inside the home, according to an arrest report.
The witness told Ballard she and her daughter were laying in bed Oct. 5 when Yarborough entered the home yelling. She suspected he was drunk, according to the report. Yarborough then entered the bedroom where they were and started jumping on the bed trying to wake them up.
The mother received a phone call and left the room, leaving Yarborough and the victim alone, the sheriff’s report states. When she tried to re-enter the bedroom, she found that the door was locked.
Yarborough eventually opened the door and left the home, Ballard wrote. The mother told deputies she found her daughter partially nude with blood on her clothing.
The victim was taken to McLeod Hospital in Cheraw for treatment.
After an Oct. 7 interview with investigators, Yarborough consented to a DNA swab, according to the report. Deputies say he admitted to being in the bed with the victim and performing “rough sex”on her.
Yarborough was then charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of intimidating a witness. He was placed in the Chesterfield County jail pending a bond hearing.
Bond was denied on all counts during his Oct. 8 hearing.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
