McBEE — A Hartsville woman was killed in a rural Chesterfield County crash Sunday evening when state troopers say her car ran off the road and struck an embankment.
The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. on Dayspring Road about 8.7 miles outside McBee, according to Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Troopers identified the victim as a 48-year-old Hartsville resident. Her name was not available when The Cheraw Chronicle went to press.
Rhyne said the woman was driving a 2000-model four-door Oldsmobile sedan. She was traveling north on Dayspring Road when the car veered off the road to the left.
The woman was thrown from the car when it overturned and died at the scene, Rhyne said. Troopers say she was not wearing a seat belt.
Troopers investigated nine highway deaths in South Carolina from Friday through Tuesday, including fatal crashes in neighboring Darlington and Dillon counties.
A 51-year-old Timmonsville man died around 11:30 a.m. Monday on a secondary road in Darlington County and a 28-year-old Marietta, North Carolina man was killed in a Saturday night crash in Dillon County.
