Residents can weigh in on plans to create a community kitchen at Cheraw’s former Robert Smalls School during a public meeting set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The Chesterfield-Marlboro Economic Opportunity Council has proposed a rural development project that would renovate and equip the cafeteria and kitchen at the 308 Front St. building to serve as a food and nutrition community kitchen for Chesterfield and Marlboro counties. The meeting will be held at the council’s office in the same building.

The agency also will consider the proposed renovation of the former Blenheim Elementary School located at 2501 S.C. 38 South in Blenheim to serve as a Head Start and community service center for Marlboro County.

Attendees will have the opportunity to comment on such items as economic and environmental affects, service area and alternatives to each project, according to the economic opportunity council.
