A Cheraw man was killed and two people were injured in an Oct. 23 three-car crash south of Cheraw on U.S. 52, according to state troopers.
Johnny Ray Dixon, 58, died from his injuries in the 7:05 p.m. crash.
Lance Cpl. David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Loranzeo Wilson of Cheraw was traveling south on U.S. 52 in a 1987 Chevrolet S-10 truck and was attempting to turn into a private drive. Melissa Childs of North Carolina was unable to stop in time and her 2004 Volvo SUV rear-ended Wilson’s truck, according to Jones.
Childs’ vehicle crossed the center line and crashed head-on into Dixon’s 2002 Mazda SUV. Dixon was trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, Jones said. Dixon was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Childs and Wilson were both taken to an area hospital for their injuries. Troopers are investigating the crash and had not yet determined whether charges would be filed.
