PAGELAND — Police Chief Larry Brown is on paid leave while state agents investigate the Pageland Police Department.

During a special meeting last Friday, Pageland Town Council members approved Brown’s request for paid administrative leave pending results of a S.C. State Law Enforcement Division probe. Town leaders would not discuss the SLED investigation.

“Pageland’s Town Council will honor Chief Brown’s request,” Town Administrator Cecil Kimery said.

Kimery declined further comment on Brown because he said he could not discuss personnel matters.

Capt. Bobby Melton will serve as acting chief while an interim chief is sought, Kimery said. Council members directed him to make appropriate staffing arrangements for the department in Brown’s absence.

SLED has not disclosed the scope of its investigation into the Pageland Police Department or revealed when the case’s outcome would be released.
