Father Jim Helton and the members of St. David’s Church, Cheraw are taking time out to honor not only veterans but all of the uniformed services, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.

“Those people who lay their lives on the line to protect us each day,” Helton said. “Certainly the armed forces deserve our gratitude but let us not forget our law enforcement, our fire departments and our emergency medical services people. All those who are serving or have served our nation and our communities in any uniformed service.”

Veterans, active-duty troops, law enforcement officers, firefighters and medics will be treated to a free barbecue lunch at the church on Market Street. The public is invited to show support and can purchase barbecue plates for $7 each.

There will be fire equipment on display. Attendees will also get to watch police and sheriff K-9 unit demonstrations as well as seeing how local rescue units operate.

Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks will deliver the Sunday morning message at St. David’s on Nov. 15.
