This year, the town of Cheraw will celebrate Christmas with one big event on Saturday, Dec. 12.
Children and parents can meet the Snow Queen, the Freezing Princess and Kris the Ice Salesman, enjoy riding on Santa’s Carousel and roar through town on a horseless carriage.
Kids and kids at heart can have their faces painted, decorate a Christmas cookie and share their Christmas lists while sitting on Santa’s knee.
Participants can create a Christmas decoration, hear the magical sounds of Christmas, taste an old-fashioned hot dog and wrap up the day with a Christmas parade and fireworks display.
Planners are also calling for entries for the Christmas parade, which will be held at 5:30 p.m.
Commercial and homemade floats are welcome. For the homemade entries, a total of $750 will be awarded with a $250 prize awarded in each of three categories: Best religious, best holiday season and best overall.
Only homemade or non-professional floats will be eligible for these prizes. A homemade float has been defined as any float not created by a professional float company. Individuals creating the floats may purchase and use storebought materials in constructing their floats.
To register an entry for this year’s parade, call parade coordinator Gail Paul at 843-517-0400.
