Cheraw ChristmasFest, parade set for Saturday

Old-fashioned yuletide traditions and modern winter fun from Disney’s “Frozen” will combine in the annual Cheraw ChristmasFest and town Christmas parade on Saturday.

The day’s activities will begin at 10:45 a.m. with a showing of the cartoon “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at the Theatre on the Green.

Activities will be held downtown at Centennial Park, complete with Santa Claus, the Snow Queen, the Freezing Princess and Kris the Ice Salesman. A number of amusements will be available including Santa’s Carousel plus horseless carriage rides and a fireworks display following the parade.

“We want to promote Cheraw as a great place for an old-fashioned Christmas and the ideal place to shop, eat and enjoy the holiday season,” said Cheraw Mayor Andy Ingram. “This family-friendly event has been planned for the community’s children and their families to enjoy. If you’re looking for a day of Christmas fun, please join us for our ChristmasFest and Christmas parade.”

The full day’s schedule is listed below. During this event, the 100 block of Market Street (from Front Street to Second Street) will be closed to all vehicular traffic. Parking will be available along Second Street and in the two parking lots behind businesses in the 100 block of Market.


• Breakfast with Santa

8-10 a.m. – Fatz Café, 973 Chesterfield Highway

Start the day off right with a breakfast of pancakes with Santa Claus. Tickets will be available for $5 each at the restuarant.

• “Whoville Meets Cheraw-ville”

10:45 a.m. to noon, Theatre on the Green

Dress like your favorite “Whoville” citizen or wear your PJs, watch the classic cartoon “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and enjoy a cookie and cocoa at River’s Edge. Admission $5.

• Reindeer Games

Noon-5 p.m., 100 block of Market Street

A $5 wristband allows repeat admittance to the Reindeer Games, a variety of carnival rides including Santa’s Carousel (one of those magical rides that kids, from 1 to 92 will enjoy), The Polar Express, Rudolph’s Turbo Tubs, Dasher’s Dashaway Slide and Blitzen’s Bounce House.

• Santa Claus visits

Noon-5 p.m., Centennial Park Gazebo

Santa arrives on a shiny red fire truck and spends the afternoon in his sleigh listening to children sharing their wish list. Photos available for $4.

• Holiday Bake Shoppe

Noon-5 p.m. at Centennial Park

Decorate a cookie with sugar sprinkles. $1 each; adult must accompany child.

• Village Square entertainment

1-2 p.m. at Centennial Park

The Crystal McInnis Dance Companies kick off the celebration with a program featuring music and dance.

1-4 p.m. at Centennial Park

Meet the The Snow Queen, The Freezing Princess and The Ice Salesman for an entertaining afternoon of autographs and photo ops. This trio of professional actors from Once Upon A Princess might break out in a Christmas carol or two in celebration of the season.

3-4 p.m. at Centennial Park

Kelley’s Fine Arts Dance Group will put guests in the Christmas spirit with their high-energy holiday show.

• ChristmasFest roving characters

Noon-5 p.m., 100 block of Market Street

The perfect photo opportunity with Olaf and friends from Disney’s “Frozen.”

• Face-painting

Noon-5 p.m., 100 block of Market Street

Add some sparkle to the season for a cost of $3-$5.

• Village Eatery

Noon-6:30 p.m., corner of Market and Second streets

There will be pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, funnel cakes and drinks will be offered throughout the day.

• Horseless carriage rides

Noon-5 p.m., Second Street

Zoom around town in this snazzy carriage for the afternoon. Canceled in the event of rain.

• Parade and fireworks show

5:30 p.m. on Second Street, beginning at Church Street and concluding at Kershaw Street

Downtown Cheraw will be filled with excitement. The day’s activities will culminate with a fireworks display at the conclusion of the parade. The parade rain date is 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14.
