Former Cheraw Town Councilman Randy Butler was recognized for his years of service during the Dec. 8 meeting.

Butler served eight years on the council representing District 1. Mayor Andy Ingram presented Butler and his wife Debbie with a portrait of the town hall painted by Roger Jones.

“I enjoyed serving with you,” Ingram said. “I think we got a lot accomplished during that time. Without a doubt, this town is continuing to move forward. I hope you will hang this in a proud location and every time you look at it, I hope it will bring back fond memories.”

To Butler’s wife he said, “Debbie, thank you for allowing him to serve.”

Butler said a few words after the keepsake was presented.

“I’d like to thank you, the council, for all your help. I’d also like to thank the folks in District 1 and the citizens in Cheraw for allowing me to serve as their representative. I appreciate that very much. And I appreciate you very much for the gift.”
