The Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services Department will kick off the Independence Day holiday with a downtown children’s parade at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2. The parade begins in the parking lot on Front Street behind Flemming Funeral Home and proceeds to Town Hall.
All children are welcome to ride their bikes, trikes or wagons in the parade. (No motorized vehicles.) Prizes will be awarded for most patriotic costume and best decorated bike, trike or wagon. Free refreshments will be available. Organizers said they also hope to see John Quincy Adams at the parade.
The festivities continue on Thursday night with a family fun celebration in downtown Cheraw, Second Street from 6-10:30 p.m. The stage will host the band Legacy Motown Revue paying tribute to legendary icons of Motown. These four performers dance, sing and are accompanied by a six-piece horn band.
In addition to musical entertainment, there will be games provided by TC’s Amusements — bungee trampoline, giant slide, bounce house, TC’s Choppers and more. Ticket purchase is required for the rides/games. All games will start at 6 p.m. and end at 9:45.
A variety of concessions will be available for purchase — pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian Ice, funnel cakes, drinks and more. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the food and festivities. Admission is free, but a fee will be charged for rides and concessions.
For the grand finale, East Coast Pyrotechnics will put on a fireworks show that organizers say “excites the sky with dazzling special effects and bright colors.” Fireworks start around 9:45 p.m.
