PATRICK — A man died late last month after state troopers say he overturned his motorcycle on a rural Chesterfield County road.
The victim, who WBTV identified as 46-year-old Randy Gainey, was riding a 2013 Harley-Davidson on Wilkes Chapel Church Road about 4 miles south of Patrick the night of June 28, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Gainey was driving south when his motorcycle ran off the road to the left, struck an embankment and overturned around 10 p.m., Lance Cpl. Gary Miller said.
Paramedics took Gainey to Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville, where he died from his injuries.
Gainey’s motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash and he had no passengers. Miller said he was not wearing a helmet.
Chesterfield County has seen eight traffic fatalities since Jan. 1, according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety. Three highway deaths were reported in Marlboro County, nine in Lancaster County and 10 in Darlington County.
As of July 5, 442 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 391 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014.
