BENNETTSVILLE — The South Carolina Association of Counties has awarded a 2015 Board of Directors Scholarship to Susan S. Boyd of Bennettsville.
Each year, the association awards four $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are residents of counties chosen by lot, and Marlboro County was selected in the 2015 draw. Applicants must plan to attend a South Carolina college or university or two-year technical college in the fall.
Boyd is the valedictorian for Marlboro County High School’s 2015 graduating class. She has been the top student for her grade level since 2011, is listed on the school’s SAT and ACT Wall of Fame, and has completed nine college-level courses at Northeastern Technical College. She is the daughter of Dean and Leigh Boyd and plans to attend Clemson University to study psychology.
Boyd is a member of Junior Leadership Bennettsville, the Marlboro County High School Improvement Council, the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also active in the youth group and vacation bible school at First Presbyterian Church.
SCAC’s Scholarship Selection Committee met in April to evaluate applicants for this award. Applicants must submit an application form and write an essay on their aspirations and goals. The selection is based on the essay, grades, school activities and community involvement.
