Closing one chapter of her life, Lendoria Johnson, owner of Vitality Health Foods at 151 Market St., is starting another — actually, make that several.
She is working on her first cookbook, with a tenative release date in the fall.
Not titled yet, the book will be filled with her favorite recipes, as well as vegetarian and gluten-free recipes inspired by her husband Willie, who is vegatarian and gluten-intolerant. Diabetics will also be able to enjoy them as well.
She said the book will be reasonably priced. The cookbook will include a minimum of 40 recipes, but that number could double as the collection comes together.
“I am at the baby stages right now. They all have to be typed up and printed,” she said. “This is a regular cookbook with different things, salads, soups and things to drinks.”
The Johnsons have been in business for 22 years and have to plans to retire soon, hence the bright yellow “for sale” sign in the window at Vitality Health Foods. The sale of the business is what is really pushing her to move forward with the cookbook’s publication.
“Because my business is for sale, so it’s now,” Lendoria Johnson said. “I won’t have an opportunity to do it, so I have to do it. This is something that I’ve been thinking about for years I’ve always had an interest in — showing people how to cook and prepare foods better.”
She is asking that anyone interested in purchasing the book stop by the store and sign the interest sheet.
She promises at her book debut, there will be food from her cookbook for everyone to enjoy.
