JEFFERSON — Pastor Wiley White Jr. and Rocky Branch Baptist Church of Jefferson have recognized two Rocky Branch youths for “exemplary service in school and community.”

Paris Clyburn represented the Mount Peaceful Baptist Association at the 28th annual Dr. Daisy B. Alexander Banquet and King/Queen Pageant of the Baptist Education and Missionary Convention of S.C. Ushers in Sumter. She placed forth overall. Clyburn is an honors student at Andrew Jackson High School in Kershaw.

Kayla Tyson was recently promoted to corporal with the Junior ROTC program at Andrew Jackson High.

Quoting one of Tyson’s fellow cadets, JROTC instructor Master Sgt. Robert Lambert said, “Kayla is a very inspirational young lady with a smile that ignites the school she attends every time she enters it. She seems to never waver in her commitment to our program. For me, she’s my pick-me-up when I see her in the mornings as I enter our classroom.”

White said Rocky Branch honors her courage to not use her disability as a crutch as Tyson strives for excellence in all that she does in life.
