Man charged with attempted murder

HARTSVILLE — Authorities have charged a Darlington man with attempted murder in a violent home break-in.

Richard Oliver Boatwright, 24, of 1211 Carley Ave., turned himself in Thursday following the Sept. 4 burglary of a home off Patrick Highway near Hartsville, Darlington County Sheriff J. Wayne Byrd said in a release.

Boatwright faces charges of attempted murder, first-degree burglary, grand larceny, criminal conspiracy, possession of burglary tools and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The victim in the alleged murder attempt had not been identified Thursday. Byrd said detectives were still investigating the break-in and assault.

Boatwright was jailed under an $80,000 bond in advance of his bond hearing.
