WALLACE — Authorities are searching for a missing Marlboro County man on both sides of the state line.

Sheriff’s deputies in neighboring Richmond County, North Carolina have joined Marlboro County authorities in the search for 71-year-old Alvin Shannon, who is considered missing and endangered due to medical conditions that may cause cognitive impairment.

Shannon was last seen Friday in Bennettsville and may be driving his 2009 Honda Accord with South Carolina veteran license plate V27243, according to a bulletin from the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division.

Deputies believe Shannon may have wrecked his car Wallace, an unincorporated area of northern Marlboro County.

Shannon is 6 feet tall, weighs about 160 pounds and has white hair. A photo provided by SLED shows a matching beard, but authorities say his facial hair has since been dyed black.

Anyone with information on Shannon’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office at 843-479-5605.
