The Cheraw Gym Champs Gymnastics team finished their season in a big way. The 52 member team competed at the 2014 South Carolina AAU District Championship in Lexington April 13, bringing home a variety of medals and awards.


The Championship meet included 425 athletes from 15 of the top gymnastics teams in the state. Cheraw walked away with 4 All Around Champions, 14 second and third place wins, and 20 first place event champions.


“The girls work so hard on a regular basis. They truly deserved this victory,” said Vicky Walker, head coach and director for the town of Cheraw’s gymnastics program through the Cheraw Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services.


All Around State Champions for the Bronze Team are Kirby Dyson and Megan Brown. All Around State Champions for the Sivler Team are Brishana Jackson and Tyla Quick.


Taking second place All Around for the Bronze Team was Haigan Harrington. Brianna Hart and Kaitlin Maguire took second place All Around for the Silver Team; Chrissy Belt, Shayna Sellers, and Temple Jones took second place All Around for the Gold Team.


Third place winners in All Around, for the Bronze Team, included Jacey Tarleton, Lily Cathryn Alexander, Briana Burch, Olivia Pruitt, and Hannah Sellers. Third place for the Silver Team was Ashlyn Maloch; and for the Gold Team, Emily Pearson and Meghan Raynor.


First place Event Champions for the Bronze team include Emma Shy, beam and floor; Hannah sellers, vault and floor; Kirby Dyson, floor; Daria Townsend, place beam; Ivy Payne, floor; and Megan Brown, lace bars.


First place Event Champions for the Silver Team are Brishana Jackson, vault, bars, floor; Carolina Holter, floor; Ava Moss, floor; Brianna Hart, vault; Tyla Quick, bars; and Abigail Kulo, floor.


First place Event Champions for the Gold Team are Shayna Sellers, bars and beam; Juliana Laney, floor; and Temple Jones, floor.


The season is now over for the gymnastics program, however, the team will be performing at the Cheraw Complex on Powe Street, Sunday, June 1.


“Look for more information regarding times and tickets at a later date,” said Walker.
