The Garden Tour to be presented Saturday, May 10, by the Four Seasons Garden Club, is a fund-raising effort for the Matheson Library Horticultural Project.
The tour allows visitors to walk through gardens as guest artists exhibit their talents and musicians offer melodies. Home and garden ideas from Kevin Lear on Main will also be available.
The event offers Mother’s Day weekend as an opportunity to stroll and enjoy local gardens, old and new, with a visit to six gardens in the “Prettiest Town in Dixie.” The tour includes the gardens of John and Bron Long, Bill and Susan Malloy, Craig and Ann Watson, Buddy and Reba Brooks, Ron and Martha Greene, and Rhett and Marsha Butler.
Advance tickets are available through club members and at various locations in town including Kevin Lear on Main, The Hair Port and Spa, Mahala Reese, Cheraw Chamber of Commerce, Rivers Edge Restaurant and Bakery, and Sue’s Florist. A tour ticket is $12. A meal at the Rivers Edge is also included with a $20 Lunch and Tour ticket.
Participants will pick up tour guides from Kevin Lear on Main, 140 Second Street, Cheraw. Same day tickets also may be purchased there.
Susan B. Robertson, landscape architect, donated her expertise and time to design the outdoor space planned for the grounds of the Matheson Library on Huger Street. The outdoor facility will include a picnic area, reading spaces, WIFI access and more. The space will also be a suitable venue for small concerts, weddings or other events.
The Four Seasons Garden Club was given unanimous approval by Cheraw Town Council for the horticultural project in February of 2012. Council agreed then to contribute $25,000 per year, over a three-year period, for a total contribution of $75,000 toward the project.
