Cheraw Mayor Andy Ingram recently addressed 2013-14 Leadership Cheraw program graduates and encouraged them to volunteer for local activities and causes.

Ingram said he was very appreciative of the 11 graduates for their interest in Cheraw and efforts to become future leaders for the town.

Leadership Cheraw is a training program hosted by the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce. During the year, participants discussed many aspects related to the sessions and topics covered. Participants seemed to like the visit to McLeod Farms in McBee, their tour of the town of Cheraw and introduction to its services, the industry tours that included Crown Cork & Seal and INA Bearings/Schaeffler as well as the SIMT Center in Florence, and the historical tour of Cheraw.

The graduation, held at the Cheraw State Park Clubhouse, was sponsored by the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce. Eleven graduates attended the graduation ceremony to celebrate a year of learning about a host of topics that covered history, tourism, education, health care, government, agribusiness and social issues.

Participants in the leadership program chose a project for the year that could affect the Cheraw State Park and activities for the community. They decided to clean up and renovate the outdoor amphitheater located in Cheraw State Park for use by the park and community performing arts groups. The group will be working in the weeks ahead to complete the project.

The Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting applications for the upcoming Leadership Cheraw class for 2014-15. For additional information about the upcoming class, contact the Chamber of Commerce office at 843-537-7681, or by email at rbartley@netc.edu.
