Northeastern Technical College is looking brighter these days — and nights — with the installation of new light-emitting diode lights throughout the Cheraw campus.

The energy- and cost-saving project was made possible by a $5,000 grant awarded by the South Carolina Energy Office, allowing Northeastern Tech to retrofit 1o flood lights and 16 pole lights with LEDs.

The new lighting will bring significant long-term energy and cost savings to the college and also provide for better lighting and safety on campus, according to a news release. The LEDs are expected to save about $1,500 a year on electricity, and $365 in maintenance, due to the lower energy use and the longer life of LED lighting.
