To the editor:
The Dizzy Gillespie Scholarship Fund, Inc. celebrated another successful golf tournament on Oct. 17 at Cheraw State Park.
The honorable Mayor Andy Ingram greeted some 89 golfers who converged on Cheraw to participate in this annual event to support the Dizzy Gillespie Scholarship Fund. President John Raiford and I were pleased with the response we received this year.
Mayor Ingram and Long expressed the importance of this tournament as all of its funds go directly to support the students of Chesterfield County to attend schools of higher learning.
As any good organization, we could not do this without the support of our outstanding sponsors who help us each year.
Thanks to Bennett Motor Co, the Malloy Foundation, Budget Services & Supplies of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Chesterfield Rural Water Co. Inc., Coulter/Long Alumni Association, Carolina Food Systems, Inc. Buddy Brooks, State Farm Agency, Ed Madden Consulting, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Ms. Barber J. Special thanks is extended to Ms. Lenora Powe and the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for their support, Mr. and Mrs. Michael David and Mr. Robert Cannon.
We appreciate the support we received from the staff of Cheraw State Park, and Mrs. Carrie Turner and her staff for catering service. The next tournament is scheduled for October 2016.
