Dear Editor,

Our nation’s debt passed $16 trillion on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, during the Democrat’s convention in Charlotte, N.C. That means that the average American family’s portion of the national debt is about $189,000.00 dollars. Our national debt is careening this country toward bankruptcy.

Many Americans receive government assistance in some form or another. Among those forms of assistance are Social Security, food stamps, WIC, SSI, unemployment, Medicare, and Medicaid. The people that receive this assistance depend upon it for their lifestyle and you may be one of them.

For the past three and a half years, the country’s debt has grown at approximately $1.3 trillion a year. At that rate, how long will it be before our country goes bankrupt and all government assistance stops?

If the United States of America goes bankrupt, who will write the check that you receive from the United States treasury when there is no money to cover the check? Even if the checks are written, who will cash it? The answer is simple … no one.

On Nov. 6, election day, think long and hard about what you wish for and who you vote for. Your future and that of your children depends on it.
