CHERAW — No charges will be filed in a wreck hospitalizing a bike rider.

Police say Lisa Kirkley Hewitte, 48, of 113 Clyde Ave. Apt. F-6, Cheraw, struck a bike-riding Furman Wardlaw, 62, of 511 Third St., Cheraw, around 3:30 p.m. Jan. 27 on Market Street.

Though listed at fault, Hewitte will not be ticketed, said Cheraw Police Lt. Sandy McCormick.

Hewitte, who was on Huger Street, told police she checked traffic on Market Street and did not see Wardlaw when she crossed

Police estimate Hewitte’s speed at 25 mph when her vehicle struck Wardlaw.

Hewitte’s 1995 Oldsmobile struck Wardlaw causing him to “go flying into the air around 12 feet” and landing on the road.

Wardlaw received head injuries and was airlifted to Columbia to be treated.
