In cooperation with “The Baillie Players” from Inman, S.C., students from Cheraw Intermediate School (CIS) will present the musical “Practically Peter Pan” Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. in the school’s multi-purpose room.
The theater company, “The Baillie Players,” is comprised of the family of Buren Martin. Along with his two children and wife, the company travels extensively up and down the east coast and as far west as Louisiana. While in Cheraw, the company will work with the CIS chorus in a production of “Practically Peter Pan,” which is a scaled down version of “Peter Pan.” The program will last approximately one hour.
After a one week residency at the school, the Baillie Players join the students on stage for a full-scale musical theater production, complete with props, costumes, lights and sound. Kim Harne, roster manager with the S.C. Arts Commission, said, “the Baillie Players offer a relatively unique family experience to Palmetto State schools.”
To be in the production, CIS students auditioned for parts. Lead characters will be played by Laney Midgley as Peter Pan, Savannah Dover as Wendy, Dewayne Wilson as John, Margaret Jean Harris as Michael, McKenzie Oliver as Chief Chili, and Marissa Short as Smee.
Funding for this and other programs at the school this year are the result of the school receiving the “Arts in Basic Curriculum” grant (ABC) and the “Distinguished Arts Program” grant (DAP).
The public is invited to attend and admission is free. High Definition DVD’s of the performance will be available at a cost of $5. Anyone wishing to donate directly to the CIS arts program, may do so at the door.
