Dewey L. “Jack” King Sr., 82, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 2, at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

King was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Chesterfield, a son of the late Arthur Ellison and Lula May Polson King. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School. King the was owner of Niven Hardware Co. Inc. from 1970 to 1996. He was a retired Command Sergeant Major with the S.C. Army National Guard, with 42 years of service, and was a charter member of the Cheraw Rotary Club. King was one of the founders of the Chesterfield County Rural Water Co., and served on the Board of Directors for many years. He was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

King is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Ballard King of the home, two sons, Dewey L. (Pam) King of Ruby and Lawrence G. (Amy) King of Chesterfield, one daughter, Ann K. (Nelson) Hendrick of Chesterfield, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two brothers, J.W. King of Florence and William E. “Bill” King of North Augusta, S.C., three sisters, Juanita K. Gulledge and Sara K. Hopper of Ruby and Esther Mae K. Smith of Indiana.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield, is serving the King family.
