Hugh Samuel Rivers, 86, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery.

Rivers was born July 11, 1926, in Chesterfield, a son of the late Legette and Maude Hunt Rivers. He was a 1943 graduate of Chesterfield High School. Rivers received an electronic degree from Massey Technical Institute and was a former Chesterfield Police Officer, T.V. repair shop owner, and was a retired textile supervisor. Rivers was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Chesterfield Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Rivers was also preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Owen Rivers.

Survivors include, one daughter, Derrel Rivers (Mitchell) Jordan of Cheraw, a granddaughter, Meredith Jordan Buck of Cheraw, two great granddaughters, one brother, Dr. Billy G. (Joyce) Rivers of Asheville, N.C., one niece and three nephews.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield, is serving the family.
