Jacqueline Blanche Morris Brooks, 69, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 17, at the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Morris Funeral Cottage of Cheraw was in charge of the service.

Brooks was born Oct. 19, 1942, in Cheraw, the only child of the late Joseph H.W. Morris Jr. and Esther Virginia Rann Morris. She was Valedictorian of the 1960 graduating class of Long High School in Cheraw; a 1964 graduate of Morgan State College, Baltimore, Md., and a 1978 graduate from John’s Hopkins University in Baltimore. Brooks married the late Elmer D. Brooks and had one son, E. David Brooks Jr.

She was a member of the George Waldo Long Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cheraw. Brooks recently retired after 33 years of service at Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw. Brooks was also the owner and funeral director of Morris Funeral Cottage and co-founder of St. Joseph’s Cemetery of Cheraw.

Brooks is survived by her son, David; aunt, Leah Worrell (Jim), several cousins; mother-in-law Geraldine Brooks Fenwick; sister-in-law Olythea Brooks; lifelong friends, and members of organizations to which she belonged.
