The Four Seasons Garden Club has chosen the home of Ron and Paula Shier at 97 High Street as the Yard of the Month.
Ron and Paula were married just a little over a year ago, which is when Paula moved into this house. Ron had been living there for the previous 10 years. Working together during the past year they have made many changes to their landscape.
Along the front of the house there was a hedge which Ron grew tired of having to constantly trim. Paula suggested turning this area into a new flower bed. Ron removed the bushes and prepared the beds.
This was an excellent idea and now the entire front of the house has a variety of perennials which include lantanas, purple hearts, bee bam, penstemon, holly, phlox and speedwell, as well as a beautiful hibiscus which Paula’s daughter gave her for Mother’s Day.
An assortment of pots and planters filled will annuals has been placed throughout providing additional color. This mixed variety of annuals include zinnias, portulaca, Mexican rose, petunias and a beautiful deep red mandevilla vine.
The area between the closed in porch and the car port have been turned into a very inviting sitting area. A wrought iron bench has been placed in the center of the area and is surrounded with a mixture of potted annual plants. Paula enjoys the peacefulness of sitting on this bench in the evenings and watching the numerous hummingbirds coming to her feeders.
