Third Thursdays program begins this week
by Karen Kissiah
Staff Writer

The Cheraw Arts Commission and the Town of Cheraw are launching a new summer program called Third Thursdays. It kicks off Thursday, May 16, with the annual Art Walkabout downtown from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Art Walkabout will feature demonstrations in art and jewelry making. There will be refreshments, music and face painting in the streets. A planting station with herbs and vinegars will enlighten the garden enthusiasts, and there will be Salsa dance instruction for the whole family.

This event brings in artists from across the state and features local artists as well.

For the remainder of the month of May, The Cheraw Arts Commission is sponsoring a photography exhibit in the Mary G. Burr Gallery of the Cheraw Community Center. The exhibit features an array of various styles and subjects by local and regional photographers.

Other upcoming summer events include Summer Camps in June and August; summer classes in theatre, knitting, origami and photography; plus a Cirque du Cheraw Performing Camp.

The On Stage community theater group will present The Odd Couple (Female Version) by Neil Simon at the Theatre on the Green June 13 - 16. There will be evening performances Thursday through Saturday, and a matinee performance Sunday afternoon.

The second annual Artsy Yard Sale will be held June 22, 8 to 11 a.m. at historic Cheraw residences. Items for that sale are now being accepted at the Cheraw Community Center.

And in July, The WannaBeatles will be performing in Cheraw. This Grammy nominated tribute band will be rocking the Theatre on the Green Saturday, July 13. Call the Cheraw Arts Commission and get your tickets early.

For more information call Lindsay Bennett, executive director for the Cheraw Arts Commission, at 843-537-8420, ext. 12.

The Cheraw Arts Commission is sponsored in part by the Chesterfield County United Way and the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
