Frances Dove

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Frances Dove, 94, died Oct. 27, 2009.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Nov. 1, at St. Luke Believers Holiness Church, Cheraw. Burial was held in Fisher Hill Cemetery.

Frances was born Oct. 24, 1915. She was called “Ma Frances” and “Mother Dove”. Mother Dove attended school in Cheraw. She was a homemaker and a cook for Cheraw Elementary School. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Mt. Zion Church. She later moved her membership to Brown’s Chapel Believers Holiness Church. Mother Dove became one of the founders of St. Luke Believers Holiness Church where she served on the Mothers Board and Church Mother until her death.

She was married to the late Fairbrown Dove. A son, Willard Dove, preceded her in death; and two sisters, Rosa Lee Campbell and Lucille Edwards.

Surviving is a daughter, Rev. Jennie Mae Williams of Cheraw and a daughter whom she raised Willie Mae Smith of Laurinburg, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Shelia Williams of Salisbury, N.C., Debbie Williams of Winston –Salem, N.C., Rhoda and Lisa Williams both of Cheraw, Walter Williams, Jr., of Suitland Maryland, Allan and Phillip Gunter both of Laurinburg, N.C., Sharmaine (Joe) White of Columbia; three great-grands, Quan-Taijah Rivers of Cheraw, Startesha Holmes of Columbia, and Mychhal Holloman of Tacoma, Wa.; two great-grands, Joshua Kenney and Jan’ea Holloman both of Colmbia; two godchildren, Stephanie Gaskins, Brenda McNeil; siblings, Mary Frances Gillespi, Diane Clark, John Henry Dove, Carl Dove and James Edward; and other relatives and friends.

Reid’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John William Harp, Sr.

died  
LANCASTER – Mr. John William Harp, Sr., 76, died Nov. 21, 2009.

Funeral services were at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 24, at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home by Rev. Bill Sumner with burial to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family received friends from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 24, prior to the service.

He was born Feb. 23, 1933 the son of the late Theodore Harp and Theo Polson Harp and was the husband of Sally Cody Harp. Mr. Harp retired from Springs Industries – Grace Bleachery and was an avid gardener. He was compassionate about his family and friends. Surviving is his wife, Sally C. Harp of the home; a son, John William Harp, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, IA; a daughter, Ann-Marie Harp of China Grove, N.C.; three brothers, Woodrow Harp and Donald Harp both of Cheraw and W.T. Harp of Bennettsville; four sisters, Elsie Rainey of Fayetteville, N.C., Shirley Brock, Joyce Teal and Christine Stafford all of Cheraw and two grandchildren, Annalise Harp and Bennett Harp of Mt. Vernon, IA.

Hancock - Tadlock

Heather Len Hancock and Michael Evans Tadlock, both of Bennettsville, were married July 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Cheraw. The Rev. Donnie Driggers officiated the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Allen Hancock of Patrick, was escorted by her father. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Grooms of Patrick and Peggy Smith and the late Harris Hancock of Cheraw. She graduated from Francis Marion University with a Master of Education and teaches second grade at Bennettsville Primary.

The groom is the son of Harriett Hunt and William Tadlock of Bennettsville. He is the grandson of the late Pete and Maebell Freeman and Howard and Juanita Tadlock of Bennettsville.

The maid of honor was Tressa Lane Hancock, sister of the bride. Junior bridesmaid was Samantha Wilkes. Flower girl was Catherine Zeke Oxendine. Register attendant was Nicole Boatwright and program attendant was Sommer Hickson.

The groom’s father served as his best man. Groomsmen were John Freeman, Charlie Lane and Charlie Ratcliffe, Jr.

A reception was held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The couple’s wedding trip was to the beach. They will reside in Bennettsville.

Jack Wilson Rhyne and Karen Belue Poston

Karen Belue Poston of Hartsville and Jack Wilson Rhyne of Chesterfield were married at 5 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church of Pageland. John Gerstenmier performed the ceremony.

The bride, who was escorted by her sons, Ricky Wilson Poston and Norman Joseph Poston III, is the daughter of the late Mrs. Josephine and Mr. Fred Wilson Belue of Hartsville. She is employed by the Hartsville Family YMCA.

The groom is the son of the late Mrs. Lucille and Mr. Woodrow Wilson Rhyne of Stanley, N.C. He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with B.A. in Sociology and a Masters in Social Work and is employed by Tri-Co Mental Health in Chesterfield. Matrons of honor were: Shelley Poston Atkinson, daughter of the bride, and Joyce Ann Belue, sister of the bride. Best Man was Christopher Rhyne, son of the groom. Honorary Bridesmaids were Julia Mae Abraham, friend of the bride, Jennifer Marie Bass, friend of the bride; Christie Hodges Hayden, friend of the bride; Briana LaShaun Ingram, friend of the couple; Wendy Davis Kelly, friend of the bride; Melissa Hall King, friend of the bride; Charlotte Hopkins Poston, daughter-in-law of the bride; and Phyllis S. Thompson, friend of the bride. Groomsmen were Brandon Eugene Poston, grandson of the bride, Ricky Wilson Poston, son of the bride, and Norman Joseph Poston III, son of the bride.

Flower Girl was Hannah Emily Atkinson, granddaughter of the bride.

Guest Register Attendants were Ashton and Skylar Atkinson, granddaughters of the bride.

A reception followed at Green River Country Club in Chesterfield. After a wedding trip to Ashville, N.C., the couple will live in Chesterfield, S.C.
