PAGELAND — With an alleged bank robbery suspect in custody, North Carolina law enforcement are looking for the getaway driver.

Over the weekend, Harold Elwood Pritchett Jr., 54, of 209-A Richardson St., Pageland, was extradited from Chesterfield County to Union County, N.C., for his alleged role in the Jan. 7 bank robbery at Sun Trust Bank in Monroe.

Bank surveillance captured a man matching Pritchett's description toting a handgun demanding money from Sun Trust clerks at the branch on Old Charlotte Highway.

An undisclosed amount was taken from the bank, however  $7,000 was seized when Pritchett was taken into custody during a traffic stop Jan. 8 in Pageland.

"We don't know how much is left," said Pageland Police Chief Larry Brown.

Prichett worked with a second person who manned the getaway car from the bank, however local police aren't sure of the driver's identity or the vehicle's description.

“It could anybody Pritchett hangs with," Chief Brown said.

Pageland police, contacted by detectives from Monroe P.D., scoured the area searching for Pritchett who currently made Richardson Drive his home.

"Pritchett has lived in and out of Pageland for years," Chief Brown said.

Following a lead from a witness, Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office sent deputies donned in SWAT gear to Richardson Drive after midnight Saturday, however a Pageland officer spotted a Ford Ranger's headlights sudden switched off while on Martha Hamilton Road.

Pfc. Randall Mullis identified Pritchett, a passenger in the SUV, when he handed over his Social Security card as identification.

Pageland police took into custody the Ford Ranger driver Kevin Dale Thomas, 38, of 215 Dogwood Circle, Pageland,  on driving under the influence charges when he failed several field sobriety tests.

Thomas is not connected with the bank robbery, Brown said.

Information about a second driver can be directed to Crime Stoppers (704) 283-5600.
