PATRICK — While gathering his clothes before a patrol car ride to jail for slapping a man, deputies discover party favors that landed him a drug charge.

Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office charged Teddy Lee Loyd, 46, of 170 Jerry Sellers Farm Road, Patrick, with assault and battery and possession of drug paraphernalia March 19 after inadvertently leading law enforcement a small amount of white powder inside a plastic bag.

Loyd reportedly approached a 37-year-old man inside a car slapping him so hard the blow broke the motorist’s sunglasses, according to incident reports.

Deputies found Loyd at home where he admitted striking the man, but claimed a knife was pulled on him first.

Inside his home, Loyd told deputies he needed to fetch some clothes.

As law enforcement followed him, they saw a red straw cut down in size and a plastic bag with some white powder inside a trash can.
