A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4 from Putman Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors.

Born in Chester, the Rev. McCluney was a son of the late John H. and Marie Yarbrough McCluney, and the widow of Margaret Wright McCluney. He retired in 1982 from Walnut Hill Baptist Church in Campobello and was currently a member of Putman Baptist Church where he was honored as Pastor Emeritus. The Rev. McCluney attended Chester High School and was a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army. The Rev. McCluney was a member of the first graduating class of the Palmetto Military Academy at Ft. Jackson.
Surviving are three daughters, Catherine (Rick) Bell of Chester, Joyce (Jerry) Burgess and Ruth (Glenn) Sherbert, all of Buffalo; a son, Otis O'Dell "Dale" (Frances) McCluney Jr. of McBee; a halfsister, Florene Moses of Greensboro, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
