CHESTERFIELD - William R. “Bill” Davis, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov 12 from Zoar United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Davis plot of Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Born in Chesterfield, Mr. Davis was a son of the late George Robert and Rassie Turnage Davis. He was a graduate of Zoar High School and a lifelong member of Zoar United Methodist Church. Mr. Davis was a farmer and was known as a “Jack of all trades.” In his community he helped many young couples with the building of their homes. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Chesterfield Masonic Lodge 220. Education was very important to Mr. Davis, and he helped to educate not only his own family but also other youth in the community through the William R. Davis Education Award given to a senior each year at Chesterfield High School.

Surviving are his wife, Susanne McPherron Davis of the home; three sons, Billy (Betty Ann) Davis of Ruby, and John (Denise) Davis and Henry Davis of Chesterfield; a daughter, Dr. Margaret Ruth Davis of Atlanta, Ga.; a granddaughter, Melanie Davis of Ruby; a brother, Layton (Mary Elizabeth) Davis of Chesterfield; and a sister, Peggy Davis (Bill) Robeson of Chesterfield.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah and Margaret Davis.

Arrangements were entrusted to Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
