A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 from the Church of the Holy Communion in Allendale. Burial followed in Swallow Savannah Cemetery.

Born in St. Francisville, La., Mrs. White was a daughter of the late the Rev. Alvin W. and Genevieve H. Skardon, and was the widow of Henry Allen White. She grew up in Walterboro, and received her B.A. in English from Coker College in 1936. Mrs. White taught in the Chesterfield, Berkley, Georgetown and Allendale County school systems prior to her retirement in 1975. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Communion (Episcopal) for 50 years, serving as both president of the Episcopal Churchwomen and as a delegate to diocesan conventions. Mrs. White was also active in many civic and service organizations in the Allendale community.
Surviving are four daughters, Susan Skardon White of Savannah, Ga., and Genevieve Hooper White, Sarah Louisa White (William) Tiller and Kitty Snipes White of Columbia; two sons, John Henry (Mary Gene) White of Sumter, and James Wilson (Cheryl) White, all of Columbia; two brothers, Col. B.N. Skardon of Clemson, and James W. Skardon of Walterboro; and nine grandchildren, Genevieve Louisa White, Henry Allen White, William Bonneau Tiller III, James Wilson White Jr., Sarah Skardon Tiller, John William White, Margaret Teal Tiller, Henry White Tiller and Benjamin Riley White of Columbia.
