Local Stars Shine At Area Tracks

Marty Griggs from Chesterfield and Cheraw's Mike Stafford have provided a great deal of the competition at The New Dillon Motor Speedway already this season, and this past Saturday the duo from Chesterfield County did not disappoint anyone.

Griggs driving his No. 55 Seneca Super Truck post the fifth fastest time in qualifying allowing Marty to continue to flex his muscle at DMS in the highly competitive Super Truck division. The Griggs and Son Mechanical Contractors sponsored Chevy Silverado jump into the fourth position at the start, but was unable to advance due to mainly lapped traffic. But a late caution allowed Marty to catch up to the top trio's bumper but Griggs had already used up his tires trying to catch the front runners was just at a stalemate at this point. Griggs has placed himself firmly in the Top 5 in the points standing in quest of the elusive Track Championship.

Mike Stafford's Ford Mustang carrying No. 6 on his car has been a threat to win each week in the 4 Cylinder class. Mike is veteran racer and has proven to his competition that at season's end that the Cheraw native has every intention of being the a CHAMPION!

Racing returns this Saturday night May 5th at Dillon with Late Models 75 lap feature, 30 laps for the Chargers, 30 laps for Street Stocks and a 30 lap 4 Cylinder feature. Gates open at 2pm, qualifying at 6pm and the First Green Flag at 7:30.

In racing action at Jack Hurst's Sandhill Motorsports Park in Chesterfield, Cam Owen from Chesterfield won the 51cc Oil Injection Class. In the 25 year old Amateur Class James Huckabee and Keith Thomas both hailing from Cheraw finished First and Second. In addition the duo of paced the field in the 30 and over Amateur class with Huckabee again emerging as the winner and Thomas grabbing the Third place trophy. During the 65cc 7 to 9 year old class Zachary Chavis also from Cheraw placed Sixth. But in the 65cc Unlimited 7 to 11 year olds Chavis come across the flag in the Fourth position. Chesterfield's Jake Brown came home Third spot in the Super Mini 12 to 15 year-old class.

Sandhills Motorsports Park will return to action on Fathers Day June 17th. With all classes participating.
