chesterfield - The Chesterfield Rams opened their season with a dominating performance against East Clarendon. The top-ranked Rams defeated East Clarendon 34-0. This game was a rematch of last season, which the Rams won 30-0.
From the opening kickoff, the Rams dominated the contest. Behind the running of Simpson Miller, the Rams moved the ball at will on the East Clarendon defense. The Rams first possession ended in punt, but the Rams saw that they could be efficient on offense.
East Clarendon fumbled their first play on offense and the Rams' Brandon Williams fell secured the fumble for the Rams. The Rams capitalized on the turnover and turned the East Clarendon's mistake into a touchdown. The extra point made it a 7-0 lead for the Rams.
The Rams went into halftime with a 13-0 lead after a pass from Akeem Johnson was caught by Dontrell Lewis for a 70-yard touchdown. The next score was added in the fourth quarter when Miller darted into the endzone for a 19-0 lead. The Rams added two and the score was 21-0.
After a strong defensive stand, the Rams got the ball again. Johnson reconnected with Lewis for another score through the air, giving the Rams a 28-0 lead. Moon Edwards added the Rams last score to make the final score 34-0.
The Rams will host Andrew Jackson tomorrow in hopes of getting to 2-0 before their match=up with the Cheraw Braves on Sept. 7.
