Efforts are under way to turn Cheraw State Park into an avenue for lakeside concerts this summer, but local support is necessary to make it happen.

Mark Davies of Cheraw State Park, Jeff Johnson of Pee Dee Outfitters, and Dylan Sneed of Hartsville plan to present The Lakeside Music Room during the summer of 2012, featuring regional independent music along with food and a lakeside sunset. The concerts are planned for the last Friday night of each month, May through August.

According to the website that has been launched to gather support for the project, organizers plan to “transform the boat dock shelter at Cheraw State Park into a true blue listening room, complete with a professional stage, comfortable seating, beautiful lighting, and immaculate sound. Each concert will be FREE and will start right around sundown.”

Johnson said he’s ready to “try something new in Cheraw.” The idea is to get local citizens to support the concert series through pledges that can be made online.

The website is www.kickstater.com/projects/1249708591/live-from-cheraw-state-park-music-room; or you can simple google Lakeside Music Room Cheraw State Park.

The project is estimated to cost $5,000 and if all of that money is not raised within the next 58 days, “we get nothing — zip,” said Johnson.

The website offers video footage explaining the project as well as listening samples and a line up of the proposed musicians.
