Organizers for the Lakeside Music Room, hoping to raise enough money for a summer concert series at Cheraw State Park, say they think they’ll be successful.

Jeffery Johnson, of Pee Dee Outfitters, is one the motivators behind this innovative approach to summer events. “We already have $1,500 committed,” said Johnson, “and almost 40 days to go still.”

“So far,” said Johnson, “we are pleased with the success of individual pledges” to the summer music series. “I think we’ll get there,” said Johnson. “We’re working on corporate donations now. I think by the time they come in we’ll be pretty close to our goal of $5,000.”

The goal of the Lakeside Music Room program, as the prospective summer concert series is being called, is to raise enough money to pay for the event, prior to the event, so the program can then be offered to the public free of charge. The boat dock area of the Cheraw State Park, just left of the old swimming area, has been chosen as the location for the concert series, which will be presented at sunset.

A good deal of the support thus far, Johnson said, has been from the older generations in town, who remember the hay days of the park as Cheraw Beach.

Johnson, along with Mark Davies of Cheraw State Park and Dylan Sneed of Hartsville, have planned the events and organized the pledge support program through Kickstart, a musical production company.

The website, which offers all pertinent information and options for contributing to the program, also provides listening samples of the musicians to be presented. To reach that website, search Lakeside Music Room, Cheraw, S.C.
