Virginia Louise Gainey passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, after a long illness.

A funeral service was held Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m. at the Word of Life Fellowship Church in Cheraw with Pastor James Redfearn Jr. officiating. Burial was at Davidson Grove Baptist Church in Chesterfield.

Daughter of the late James and Nethel Watson Gainey, Virginia was born on March 23, 1943, in Chesterfield. She received her education in the Chesterfield County school system and graduated from Gary High School in Chesterfield. She received her accounting degree from Huntington College in New York and was employed by an accounting firm for many years while living in New York. Virginia relocated to Charlotte in 1986 and was employed by Charlotte Douglas International Airport. She was also a member of Word of Life Fellowship Church in Cheraw.

Survivors include her siblings, James W. Gainey of Bronx, N.Y., Ethel M. Nicholson, Ralph W. Gainey (Shirley), Robert L. Gainey, Leon Gainey (Shirley), all of Charlotte, N.C., Doristeen H. Grant (Edward) of Lithonia, Ga., Nova Ervin (Rev. John Ervin) of Ellerbe, N.C., Linda J. Gainey of Fayetteville, N.C., and Troy Gainey of Chesterfield; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
