Cheraw Arts Commission 2012-13 Theatre has shows for family audiences

The Cheraw Arts Commission recently announced the 2012-13 theatre offerings for young audiences and families. The season kicks off with the Porkchop Productions returning to Cheraw in “Chicken Little” on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Theatre on the Green. There will be two shows at 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Admission to the show is $3 for children with accompanying adults admitted at no charge. This show is one of four that will be offered during the school year for the young audience member, ages 4 and older.

Additional offerings include “The Spencers: Theatre of Illusion” on Tuesday evening, Oct. 30, The duo present a big, high-tech stage show combining drama, comedy, romance, and suspense with elaborate stage illusions and dazzling special effects.

The tradition continues with the holiday favorite movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” on Saturday Dec. 1. Participants will once again enjoy cookies and cocoa following the movie.

In March, The Barter Theatre of Abingdon, Va., comes to Cheraw with the musical “Miss Nelson is Missing” during school hours for students, followed by an evening performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for family audiences. Tarradiddle Players of Charlotte will delight audiences with its musical version of “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs” in April.
