CareFIRST Carolina Foundation, in partnership with the Hartsville Community Players, will host a benefit production of the play, “Smoke on the Mountain,” on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at 8 p.m. All proceeds from the benefit play will help local families without any other means receive specialty health care services. The play will be held at the Center Theater at 212 North Fifth Street in Hartsville.

Also, a limited number of “Evening at the Theatre” tickets are available. A black tie optional reception held at the Black Creek Arts gallery from 6:30 to 8 p.m. preceding the play, an “Evening at the Theatre” will include live entertainment, specialty hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, entrance to the play and reserved theater seating. There will also be a silent auction held in the theater lobby. Again, all proceeds will be used to help area CareSouth Carolina patients in need to receive medical services.

Ann Lewis, CEO of CareSouth Carolina, said, “We are still excited about this partnership with the Hartsville Community Players. This is our fifth year, and I really think it’s thrilling to be able to support the local arts community and, at the same time, assist those struggling to receive access to specialty health care. Plus, the dollars donated stay here, helping families right here in the Pee Dee. “

Elayne Mahn, President of the Hartsville Community Players, said, “The Board is very honored to again be working to not only help local families in a medical crisis but do it by showcasing local talented actors. We feel this is a great way to make a contribution to a worthy cause through this partnership with CareFIRST Carolina Foundation. We are expanding our show schedule to also include the Sunday matinee at the Opera House in Bishopville! It should be a wonderful event for everyone.”

“The proceeds from this event will go directly to local families that are in need. For every $50.00 we raise, we can help one more individual without insurance gain access to quality health care,” said Charlie Gray, President of CareFIRST Carolina. “We would like to encourage everyone to join us and support the CareFIRST Carolina Foundation - and have a great time doing it.”

“Smoke on the Mountain” will be presented Thursday, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. (at the Opera House in Bishopville). General admission tickets for all performances are $12 adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students with valid ID. “Evening at the Theatre” reception tickets are $40 each. All proceeds from Saturday’s performance, including “Evening at the Theater” ticket sales and silent auction bids, will benefit CareFIRST Carolina Foundation’s “Friends and Neighbors” patient assistance fund.

Tickets for each performance as well as the GALA “Evening at the Theater” event are available for sale at Burry Bookstore in Hartsville; Hartsville Chamber of Commerce; and CareSouth Carolina centers in Cheraw, Chesterfield, Society Hill, Bennettsville, McColl, Lake View, Hartsville and Bishopville.

All Tickets for the play and GALA are available online at www.hartsvillecommunityplayers.org, www.hartsvillecommunityplayers.org, and can be purchased through PayPal with a major credit card.

CareFIRST Carolina is the first regional foundation to focus on improving the access and the quality of health care in the Pee Dee. The foundation generates funding to financially support the mission of CareSouth Carolina to provide care to the uninsured. Those services are provided in Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Lee and Marlboro Counties. Donations remain in the Pee Dee to assist local families and individuals receive better access to health care.
