Winners for the Annual Christmas Card Contest, sponsored jointly by Cheraw Arts Commission and the Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services, were recently named. Their works will remain on display at the Mary G. Burr Gallery in the Cheraw Community Center until the end of December.
Prize money this year, as well as coupons, were donated by Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald’s. Two of the winning images have been reproduced and used as Christmas Cards for the Recreation Department to send throughout the state.
Area teachers play a big role in this annual competition by encouraging their students to enter. The cards are judged in each grade level, kindergarten through 12th grade. The card selected as Best in Show can come from any grade level. Grand Prizes are awarded for grades K-6th, as well as 7th -12th.
This year, the Best in Show award went to Emily Beck, a 6th grader at Long Middle School.
Grand Prize for K-6th, was awarded to Belle Bollman, a fifth grader at Cheraw Intermediate School. And Robin Whiteman, a 12th grader at Trinity Collegiate, took the Grand Prize for grades 7 through 12.

Kindergarten - Isabella Greene, 1st place, Faith Christian Academy. Jayne Simmons, 2nd place, Faith Christian Academy. Joshua Helms, 3rd place, Faith Christian Academy. Connner Williams, Grace King and Madison Harpe were each awarded Honorable Mention and each is a student at Faith Christian Academy.
First Grade - Hensley Brianna Jones, 1st place, Faith Christian Academy. Kaylynn King, 2nd place, Faith Christian Academy. Lily Alexander, 3rd place, Faith Christian Academy. Honorable Mention awards went to Gracie Richardson, Amor Baumgardner and Averi McLain, all students of Cheraw Primary.
Second Grade - Marilyn Crowley, 1st place, Cheraw Primary. Treazure Ja’Niya McFarlin, 2nd place, Cheraw Primary. Elizabeth Hydrick, 3rd place, Faith Christian Academy. Anne Kathryne Thomas, honorable mention, Cheraw Primary. Maylen Wetternek, honorable mention, Faith Christian Academy. Jodi O’Neal, honorable mention, Cheraw Primary.
Third Grade - Christian Bollman, 1st place, Cheraw Intermediate. Shaylee Chavis, 2nd place, Cheraw Intermediate. Reagan Spivey, 3rd place, Faith Christian Academy. Gianna Moore and Sydney Lee, both of Cheraw Intermediate, received honorable mention awards. And Christopher Ellerbe, of Faith Christian Academy, was award honorable mention.
Fourth Grade - Haley Reeves, 1st place, Cheraw Intermediate. Nazia Bridges, 2nd place, Cheraw Intermediate. Emma Lofton, 3rd place, Cheraw Intermediate. Andrea Tucker, honorable mention, Cheraw Intermediate. Aubreigh Davis, honorable mention, home school.
Fifth Grade - Allison Leigh Brown, 1st place, Cheraw Intermediate. Emma Dean, 2nd place, Faith Christian Academy. Joanna Gentry, 3rd place, Faith Christian Academy. Luke Dixon, honorable mention, Cheraw Intermediate. Andy Beck, honorable mention, Faith Christian Academy.
Sixth Grade - Alexis McLain, 1st place, Long Middle School. Mona Harrison, 2nd place, Long Middle School. Chrisstaja Terry, 3rd place, Long Middle School. Daekwon Mabry, Ashlyn Jacobs and Chanteria Scott each received honorable mention awards and each is a student at Long Middle School.
Seventh Grade - Victor Ruan, 1st place, Long Middle School. Sarah Hill, 2nd place, Faith Christian Academy. Victor Santos, 3rd place, Long Middle School. Trace Shipley, Johnathan Gainey, Justin Leviner and Tramel McFarland each received honorable mention awards and each is a student at Long Middle School.
Eight Grade - Kami Walls, 1st place, Long Middle School. Kaytlin Teal, 2nd place, Long Middle School. London Scott, 3rd place, Long Middle School. Michael Holland, Jade Maroney, Jackson Goddard and Audra Butler each received honorable mention awards and each is a student at Long Middle School.
Ninth Grade - Savannah Wright, 1st place, Cheraw High School. Maquitta Butler, 2nd place, Cheraw High School. Malik Freeman, 3rd place, Cheraw High School. Eva Ruan and Rylie Thurman each received an honorable mention award and each is a student at Cheraw High School.
Tenth Grade - Elizabeth “Betsy” Norris, 1st place, Cheraw High School. Taylor Chestnut, 2nd place, Cheraw High School. Meredith Hammer, 3rd place, Cheraw High School. Bredaisia Harrington, Benson Stubbs and Jessica Locklear each received honorable mention awards and each is a student at Cheraw High School.
