The Marvelous Wonderettes of Myrtle Beach provided musical entertainment and encouraged audience participation at the Theater on the Green last Saturday evening. The event, sponsored by the Cheraw Arts Commission, prompted some local residents to “dress accordingly.”

Betty Hurst and Diane Hines dressed in full 1950s fashion; complete with poodles and saddle oxfords. Along with other guests in the audience, they became involved with the production by helping select the prom queen for this light hearted rendition of a 1958 off Broadway production.

“It was a very energetic performance,” said Lindsey Bennett, executive director for the Cheraw Arts Commission. “Everybody seemed to really enjoy themselves.”

Even the performers, said Bennett, boasted of the enthusiasm they received from Cheraw’s audience.
