If your child plans to play recreational ball this spring, make sure he or she is registered by Friday, March 1. That’s the deadline to sign-up with The Cheraw Recreation and Leisure Services Department at the Cheraw Community Center. Hours of registration are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The age groups that will be offered are: Buddy Ball, ages 3 - 4; T-Ball, ages 5 - 6; Coach Pitch, ages 7 - 8; Dixie Minor, ages 9 - 10; Dixie Youth, ages 11 - 12; Dixie Boys, ages 13 - 14; Dixie Darlings Softball, ages 7 - 8; Dixie Angels Softball, ages 9 - 10; Dixie Ponytails Softball, ages 11 - 12; Dixie Belles, ages 13 - 15.
The fee is $20 for city residents and $40 for county residents. The age cutoff date is May 1, 2013, for baseball and January 1, 2013, for softball. City residents must provide proof of residency. A birth certificate is required for anyone that has never played before. There will be a $7 insurance fee if the child has not played an activity with the recreational department since Aug. 1, 2012.
The age groups for girls softball have been changed and will involve some additional travel in Chesterfield County.
