CHESTERFIELD - To supplement a research unit on African countries, Chesterfield High School Media Specialist Melissa Mixon, coordinated a visit from Peace Corps member Emily Paige Pusser and Peter DeMarco, a graduate student who received his Master’s degree from the University of Ghana.

Pusser is a graduate of Chesterfield High School and Furman University. She has served one year of a two-year commitment in Cameroon Africa with the Peace Corp.

Pusser and DeMarco presented a program in the media center to the history classes of Valerie Pusser, Emily’s mother, and Donna Barefoot. They shared personal experiences about the culture of each country, showed traditional clothing and pictures from their travels.

Of particular interest to the students were music videos of African groups. Not only did this activity enhance student learning, this experience showed students how they can make a difference in the world.
