130 people drowned on a boat off the coast of Libya | abroad

Dozens of refugees and migrants drowned off the coast of Libya. SOS Mediterranee reported this day. A ship with 130 people trying to reach Europe ran into trouble.

The non-governmental organization received a report on Wednesday through Alarm Phone about three ships in trouble in that region of the Mediterranean. And today, after hours of searching, our worst fears have become reality. The Ocean Viking crew has seen the devastating effects of the wreck of a rubber boat. “

Rough sea

In rough seas with waves up to six meters, the ship searched for three ships on Thursday with the help of three merchant ships. They encountered problems in the northeastern region of Tripoli. There were supposed to be 130 people on the boat.

Luisa Alpera, the ship’s rescue effort coordinator, said in a press release that the Ocean Viking had not found any survivors since its arrival at the scene of the accident. The organization posted photos of the inverted inflatable boat on Twitter. Rescue workers have already secured dozens of bodies. The crew of one of the other ships also recovered some bodies from the water.

No more hope of finding survivors

The NGO said that a plane from the European Border Security Agency Frontex discovered the location of the ship. Reporter Emmanuel Chase said of the ship there was no longer any hope of finding survivors.

Earlier in the week, 41 people lost their lives off the Tunisian coast. In the Mediterranean, according to the International Organization for Migration, at least 453 migrants have drowned this year, most of whom died on the “central route”. Many risk crossing Italy in small ships to reach the European Union.
