The boy, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was arrested Friday and is being held in a juvenile detention center, County Sheriff John Zanoni said at a news conference. Zanoni said he is suspected of killing his father, Lui Yang, and his mother, Si Fang, both 37, at their home near the Miramonte community in Fresno County.
The boy's sister underwent emergency surgery after the attack due to her serious injuries, but is expected to make a full recovery. A 7-year-old brother, who was also in the house, was not injured.
The 14-year-old suspect called 911 himself and claimed his family had been attacked by a robber who then fled in a pickup truck. But investigators soon discovered that the boy's story was “inconsistent.” In addition, investigations revealed that the victims were attacked with weapons from their parents' home.
“The evidence ultimately showed that he had fabricated the robbery story and that he himself was responsible for the armed attack on his mother, father and sister,” Zanoni said. No further details were provided about the possible motive. The boy is said to be an unknown foster youth. “The tragedy is particularly great because two children lost their father and mother due to the actions of their older brother,” Zanoni said.
