A week after a 3-1 defeat in the competition, Anderlecht faced leader O Leuven in the Belgian Cup with feelings of revenge.
However, there was not much to note on the pitch: after two good chances, the Kuijpers were able to open the scoring after fifteen minutes. At Anderlecht there were a lot of protests over offside, but there was no VAR that could validate the purple and white decision.
Anderlecht didn’t have much to offer at the start, but after half an hour things improved. Vinants and Delaber forgot to equalize, but a penalty kick just before the end of the first half gave Anderlecht what it was looking for.
After the break, Anderlecht and OL did not give each other an inch until the ball hit the penalty spot again. Now for the visitors after a contested hand-to-hand match by Silke VanWinsberg. Nicky van Dijk appeared to have kicked the OHL side into the quarter-finals, but after some fumbling by Leuven’s goalkeeper, Anderlecht were still able to extend extra time.
It seemed that penalty kicks would decide the match, but 16-year-old substitute Aurélie Reynders decided otherwise. A clever ball into the right corner knocked Anderlecht out of the Belgian Cup: 2-3. A new blow for the national champion.
